Chris Ayers of Exclaim! – "Goth-prog suites and standout guitar solos put Type O at the metal forefront once again.".They pull from a variety of influences and mold into something that is wholly their own." Draven99 of Blogcritics – "Type O Negative is a true original.

Greg Prato of AllMusic (3.5/5) – "With Dead Again, Type O Negative delivers another album of dark tales and even darker riffs, and will reassure morose metalheads that they can still count on Steele to spread the misery.".Nearly ten years after this release, the antonymic title Live Again was released, hencely featuring all live tracks. It has the most songs split into cantos (8) and the most cantos (27) of any album. It has the fewest tracks of any TON album since The Origin of the Feces. This is the only album where none of its tracks last less than four minutes. This is one of two TON albums to show faces on the album cover the other is Bloody Kisses. This is the first album since Peter Steele became a Roman Catholic, therefore this is the most religious TON album. This is the earliest calendar date of studio album release by Type O Negative." Kill You Tonight (live At Wacken Open Air 2007)"." Love You to Death (live At Wacken Open Air 2007)"." Christian Woman (live At Wacken Open Air 2007)"." The elements on this album (both lyrically and musically) are described as dirgy, gloomy, sad, depressing, uplifting and energetic. The dominant genres for this album are gothic metal and doom metal, and it has lesser amounts of thrash metal, crossover, punk, progressive metal, and psychedelic metal. The album contains the musical elements of all of the previous Type O Negative albums molded together, as well as sounds resembling Carnivore (Pete's previous band), Black Sabbath, Bauhaus, and The Beatles. There are occasional times on this album where Peter's voice sounds like young Glenn Danzig. The album has lyrics about drug use, death, lost love, heartbreak, and self-loathing. From left to right they are Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia Nikolaevna. The back cover shows Grand Duchesses of the Tsarist family taken back in 1906. The lettering on the cover is in faux-Cyrillic font. The front cover shows the Russian mystic Grigori Rasputin. In this interview, Pete explains that instead of being "born-again" (meaning to proclaim someone's return to faith), he is "dead-again". Peter Steele was born and raised a Catholic and returned towards this faith in the making of Dead Again. Pete explained his recent rediscovery in his faith. The meaning of Dead Again as the album title refers to Pete's claim that parts of his body are dying from years of heavy alcohol and cocaine use after they had been temporarily reinvigorated.Īnother possibility for the meaning of the name was in an interview with Decibel Magazine. The album reached #27 on the US Billboard 200 chart, which is the highest peak of any Type O album. Dead Again is the first and only Type O Negative album to be released through SPV / Steamhammer Records and is the only album to be released through a label other than Roadrunner. The album was released in the USA and the majority of the world on March 13, 2007, March 16 in Germany, and March 19 in other parts of Europe. The working title for this album was The Profit of Doom, same as the title of the third track.
