This Orbit water timer looks pretty basic on the surface, but it actually does a fantastic job and suits all type of irrigation needs, from basic beginner to semi pro gardeners. (Some timers do not need a protective cover at all.

Next, set how long you would like the timer to run for each time it is on, from 1 minute to 120 minutes. Set the frequency of how often you want to water, from once every hour to once a week. The functionality of this timer is pretty basic, for considering the low cost, you can’t really ask for much more. The Kingfisher timer costs under half of the price of the Hozelock timer plus. This is most budget friendly electronic water timer that I have chosen to include.

The Yard Map feature allows you to draw virtual boundaries for each zone in your yard and to specify how many sprinkler heads are in it and where, which Rachio says improves water-usage reporting. The app sends timely and consistent notifications to your smartphone and email, the most useful being a warning that the sprinklers are about to turn on, sent a few seconds before they do this alert saved us from unexpectedly soaking some guests. We’ve observed several instances when other controllers set rain delays due to forecasted events that didn’t actually happen, and in every case the Rachio 3 wasn’t similarly fooled by the meteorologist. In our long-term testing this accuracy has continued to make the Rachio 3 the most effective controller we’ve tested.
